Yesterday, Oregon-based Turtle Island Foods announced that it had officially sold its 3 millionth Tofurky Thanksgiving roast, a vegan meat alternative. The roast, which is a made from wheat protein, organic tofu, and seasoning, has become an increasingly popular holiday dish, especially amongst the vegan community. In 1995, the famous meat alternative launched and sold the first 500 roasts throughout the Northwest region. Tofurky is also making headlines for its fundraising efforts in support of the vegan food truck The Cinnamon Snail’s hurricane relief philanthropy. The company’s founder Seth Tibbott along with several other animal-friendly individuals banned together to organize the four-mile Tofurky Trot. The run will donate money to maintain the food truck’s free food deliveries to areas impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
