British Demand CCTVs Inside Slaughterhouses
A UK-based poll reveals that majority of citizens think closed-circuit TVs should be installed in slaughterhouses.
December 4, 2012
Animal-welfare organization Animal Aid recently revealed in a poll conducted by YouGov that 60 percent of citizens across Great Britain believe that the government should mandate close-circuit televisions inside slaughterhouse facilities. In Scotland, 71 percent supported the installations, along with a whopping 78 percent in Wales. Animal Aid believes that facilities with closed-circuit TV monitors would encourage workers to treat farm animals humanely, despite their fateful deaths. After several meat companies have been exposed by undercover investigators such as Mercy For Animal’s recent exposure of turkey abuse at Butterball farms, video surveillance inside slaughter facilities could decrease such violent abuse from taking place.
