The animal-welfare organizations The Humane Society of the United States and Animals and Society Institute have announced the university victors that teach courses on the connections between people and animals. Some of the award recipients include the University of Washington, Washington and Lee University, and Lund University, which is based in Sweden. ASI president of the board of directors Kenneth Shapiro expresses his excitement for the fact that an increasing number of colleges across the country allow students to major or minor in animal studies. Winning the Distinguished Established Course Award is University of Washington’s Violent Intimacies: Encountering the Animal course, which educates students on the exploitive relationship of human and animals from several perspectives.
