Earlier this year, the Humane Society of the United States filed a lawsuit against the Raleigh Transit Authority claiming that it was violating the first and fourteenth amendments after the RTA refused to run an advertisement that depicted pigs in gestation crates. The two parties recently settled the dispute and the HSUS advertisement will be featured on two buses for six months. “We are pleased that this case has come to a swift end,” says Jonathan Lovvorn, senior vice president for animal protection litigation at the HSUS, “and that the citizens of Raleigh will be better informed about how most breeding pigs in the pork industry are so routinely abused.”
