In 2012, the organization Mercy For Animals conducted an undercover investigation on Los Angeles resident Roberto Celedon’s illegal butcher operation. MFA’s footage, which depicted animals being inhumanely slaughtered and bled to death, led to the perpetrator being convicted of felony animal-cruelty. This resulted in him facing a 90-day prison sentence, a $24,000 fine, and 48 mandated animal-cruelty classes; he was also barred from having any animals in his possession. According to MFA, last month Celedon was arrested once again for unlawfully slaughtering animals. He pled no contest to the charges and has been sentenced to three years in state prison. While Celedon’s treatment of animals was extremely inhumane, thousands of others suffer legally at the hands of the factory farming and dairy industry, making veganism the smartest consumer choice for eliminating animal-cruelty.
