Poultry Workers Face Three Years in Prison

Andy Cheung and Lien Diep, who are accused of abandoning nearly 50,000 chickens, face a possible three-year prison sentence and fines up to $20,000 in animal-cruelty charges,, reports the SF Gate. Animal-welfare workers discovered 20,000 dead chickens and an additional 25,000 who were euthanized at A&L Poultry near Turlock, CA last year. According to their defense attorney Martha Jane Carlton-Magana, Cheung and Diep were attempting to euthanize the birds and they gave them to a third party. The defendants have not entered a plea as of yet due to a family emergency, but are expected to file one on March 11.
