Foster Farms Chicken is one of the most popular poultry brands in the Northwest, but recently it’s been determined as the source of salmonella poisoning. Heidelberg, a specific isolated strain of salmonella, was the cause of at least 56 cases in Washington state with 15 patients requiring hospitalization. In nearby Oregon, 43 people fell ill from the contaminated chicken, and though there are more than 120 cases reported so far, Foster Farms Chicken is not issuing a recall. Facilities are located in Oregon and Washington, but Foster Farms’ chicken is shipped all over the region. The US Department of Agriculture is currently conducting an investigation of the company.
