Activists from the group Toronto Pig Save took to the streets last week during the Ontario city’s latest heat wave to give factory farm pigs some much-needed hydration. The activists waited on a corner of a busy intersection that was en route to the meat manufacturer Quality Meat Packers. When a truck filled with pigs stopped at a traffic light, Pig Save members fed the overheated animals water through the side of the truck. Pig Save is a vegan organization that was started in 2010 to raise awareness about pig slaughter, and in the last few years, the grassroots movement has gone international, spreading throughout Canada, Australia, and the United States.
