Renowned supermodel Twiggy has joined Animal Defenders International in its campaign to instill fur-free ethics in the clothing industry at this year’s London Fashion Week. “Fur looks beautiful on animals, but very ugly on humans,” says Twiggy in a statement on the ADI website. “Fur is literally ripped off animals backs and it can take many animals to make just one coat. The UK prides itself as a nation of animal lovers, so I am asking London Fashion Week to make an ethical choice and reject real fur.” According to ADI, approximately 50 million animals are subjected to cruel and inhumane conditions and slaughtered every year for their fur; even though fur farms are outlawed in the UK, many companies import it from surrounding countries.
