The city of West Hollywood––a little more than eight miles from downtown Los Angeles––recently became the first in the US to put into effect a ban on real fur. According to an ordinance displayed on the city’s website, “it [is] unlawful for retail stores within city limits to sell, trade, or otherwise distribute clothing made from the skins or pelts of any animal with hair, fur, or wool,” reports CBS Los Angeles. The new law also extends to online purchases shipped from West Hollywood. The fur-ban has been in discussion among city officials since 2011 when the city council first approved of the measure. Any WeHo shops caught selling real fur will be fined $200 if it’s a first-time offense.
