Vegan Butcher Shop Coming to Northern California

New York-style deli, The Butcher’s Son, is coming to Berkeley, CA, in early 2015. As an ode to the younger, more health-conscious generation who are thriving without animal products, the storefront will be run by a brother-sister team whose father had a popular vegetarian diner in the neighborhood for decades. On the menu will be vegan cheeses and meats, sausage, salami, fresh mozzarella, housemade pickles, and pizza. In the morning, patrons can enjoy doughnuts, pastries, bagels, and espresso. According to co-owner, Peter Fikaris, “I feel like what we are doing is a new, trendy younger concept. … Everybody is turning health-conscious, people are going vegan or Paleo, everybody is looking for healthy alternatives, not just for their own personal health but for the health of the planet.”
