After more than 10 years in development, Follow Your Heart (makers of the popular Vegenaise vegan mayonnaise) just announced the release of VeganEgg later this month. The whole-egg alternative is said to mimic the flavor, texture, and nutrients of traditional eggs—minus the cholesterol and cruelty. VeganEgg can be used in baking, cooking, and scrambling, which means cookies, scrambles, muffins, and even omelets can now be easily veganized with one product. “Enormous amounts of water, resources, and fossil fuels go into chicken and egg production, not to mention the inhumane conditions that many of these animals are subjected to,” Bob Goldberg, president and CEO of Follow Your Heart, said. “We have been working toward VeganEgg for over a decade now, and there were many challenges that we overcame before developing a product that could truly replace eggs.” VeganEgg is GMO-free and has fewer calories and half the fat of animal-based eggs, with every four-ounce package equivalent to a dozen eggs. The plant-based egg will be available on Amazon.com for $6.99−$7.99 a package later this month and in retail outlets in early 2016.
