A Tuesday USA Today article detailed Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt a Turkey project, which is in its 30th year and has already received 5,000 sponsorships this season. Adoptions cost $30, and donors are given a certificate with a photo and details about the turkey they choose to fund. Farm Sanctuary uses the money acquired from the event to save and care for rescued farmed animals at its four sanctuaries. The five turkeys available for adoption this year are Pepper, Christina, Jackie, Robin, and Pamela. People can also donate $50 to honor Turpentine, a four-year-old turkey who passed away in January. The organization praises its rescue turkeys at the annual Celebration for the Turkeys, during which the birds are the guests of honor.
