In an open letter to California Governor Jerry Brown, musician Moby points to the state’s number one culprit of water use: agribusiness. Using 80 percent of the available water, Moby pleads with the governor to place restrictions on such “super-thirsty cash crops” like beef, which takes 1,847 gallons of water to produce a single pound (conversely, a pound of almonds requires 368 gallons). Representing the Courage Campaign (an online community of nearly 1 million members) to fight for progressive legislation throughout the country, Moby’s encourages officials to “realign our water needs with our water supply” and that we should be creating a system that’s sustainable for the next 100+ years.
