Veg Out Seattle—a new vegan festival taking place April 21, 2016, in the SoDo neighborhood of Seattle—was successfully funded on crowd-funding platform Kickstarter today. Festival organizer and owner of Shindig Events Kelli Bielema asked backers for $5,000 in order to create an event to offset many of the local meat-centric festivals. Bielema believes that campaigns such as Meatless Mondays and “vegan living the norm in the Pacific Northwest, it’s becoming more than a trend. It’s an active and inspirational lifestyle that lends itself to sustainable practices and all-around ‘good feels.’” The event will feature food, drinks, and entertainment, along with local vegan entrepreneurs. Seattle is quickly gaining momentum with growing vegan options such as bakery and ice cream shop Seattle Cookie Counter, vegan pizzeria Pizza Pi, and recently opened tiki bar No Bones Beach Club—the first of its kind in the world.
