The Lone Star State will play host to two plant-based festivals this weekend, one aimed at inspiring healthy lifestyles with world-renowned speakers, yoga, and a 5k race, and the other touting the benefits of vegan eating through dozens of food vendors, live music, and a fashion show. The 2016 HealthFest, held in Marshall, TX, will host more than 20 prominent veg personalities including Neal Barnard, MD of the Barnard Medical Center in Washington, DC, How Not to Die author Michael Greger, MD, and public health nutritionist and By Any Greens Necessary author Tracye McQuirter. Seminars on weight loss, energy, disease prevention, and fitness will be offered along with chef-led cooking demos and fitness activities. The fifth annual Texas VegFest in Austin is a celebration of the plant-based lifestyle, health, environment, and animal welfare, and will feature youth activities, food booths galore, craft beer, and entertainment at the sprawling Lake Austin. Speakers include Olympic skier and author Seba Johnson, The Taco Cleanse taco scientists, and Joyce Tischler, co-founder of the Animal Defense Fund, while festival goers will get their hands on food from Follow Your Heart, Punk Rawk Labs, and The Taco Cleanse cookbook. VegNews is a sponsor of Texas VegFest and will be on hand to give out copies of the magazine and offer subscription deals to attendees.
