WhiteWave Foods has released its quarterly earnings for the beginning of 2016, seeing its net income rising by 28 percent to $43 million in the first three months of the year. The packaged food and beverage distributor owns plant-based companies Silk, So Delicious, and Vega, all of which are attributed with boosting the company’s profits. “We are off to a very good start in 2016,” Gregg Engles, chairman and chief executive officer, said. The company’s business unit that handles United States foods and beverages has seen sales rise 15 percent to $895 million, largely in thanks to its acquiring of plant-based nutritional product-makers Vega in 2015—sales of which are up more than 50 percent from last year. Engles also alluded to a push to Latin American markets, speaking of plans to introduce Silk’s line of non-dairy products into Mexico as a first-step in a southward expansion.
