On Monday, East Village vegan eatery V Spot Organic will host The Great Vegan Pie Contest. Competing chefs will enter their sweet or savory pies—which currently include a Mini Watermelon Pie from Dayna Rozental, Strawberry Rose Hand Pie from Shoshana Frishberg-Izzo, S’mores Pie from Tere Fox, and Raw Truffle Pie with Almond Joy Crust and Raspberries by Brian David. The event is open to the public, and attendees will be treated to ice cream from Blythe Anne and Junie Dish; drink specials including sangria pitchers, micheladas, and margaritas; and a meet-and-greet with chefs. Judges include authors Fran Costigan and bakers Diana Cornell and Barbara Sitomer. The pie contest is the latest in a series of vegan food competitions put on by U.S. Veg Corp, including Battle of the Brussels, Vegan Mac Throwdown, and El Macho Taco.
