Asheville, NC-based No Evil Foods’ vegan version of classic Southern pulled pork-style barbecue received one of three honorable mentions in the Food & Drink category of this year’s Made in NC Awards. This annual competition, hosted by Our State magazine, celebrates North Carolina’s best handmade, locally sourced artisanal products. A panel of judges chose No Evil Foods’ Pit Boss from more than 500 other submissions as one of three finalists because their slow-smoked plant-based Southern barbeque “stood out from the crowd.” “To have our plant-based BBQ recognized in a statewide competition is an incredible honor,” said No Evil Foods co-founder Sadrah Schadel. “North Carolina is smack dab in the middle of the barbecue belt, so if our meats made from plants can compete here, and win, they can compete anywhere.” No Evil Foods’ award-winning plant-based meats (including chicken, Italian sausage, and Mexican chorizo) are available at restaurants and stores in 11 states or for order at their online Butcher Shop (with the Pit Boss coming soon).
