It’s been a difficult week for the plant-based food industry. After a spirited attempt to buy back the company that bears her name, Miyoko Schinner ultimately lost her bid to regain ownership of Miyoko’s Creamery.

“I was incredibly touched by everyone rallying around me,” Schinner told VegNews about her whirlwind bid. “I think it’s a reflection of the times, of what’s happening across the country politically, where people are saying, ‘We’re done with the way things have been done. We want to put our money where someone’s ethics are truly there.’”

We continue to hold out hope for whatever Schinner decides to create next, should she choose to return to the vegan food world.

In the meantime, there’s plenty of good news to celebrate. The Herbivorous Butcher is officially back, Dunkin’ has released two Wicked-themed drinks, and a wave of innovative new products just hit shelves. Keep reading for all the details.

Daring Foods launches microwavable chicken across the US

Let’s be honest: the microwave was one of the best inventions of the 20th century. When you’re in a rush or just running low on energy, this humble kitchen appliance makes life infinitely easier. And now, Daring Foods has launched a new product specifically designed to be made in the microwave. The vegan chicken brand has launched two new heat-and-eat products: Diced Plant Chicken and Shredded Plant Chicken. Both are ready in minutes and available now at Walmart and Albertsons stores nationwide.

Dunkin’ goes ‘Wicked’ with new drink collaboration

In honor of the upcoming Wicked sequel, Dunkin’ has unveiled two themed drinks, and both can be made dairy-free. The Wicked Green Matcha is an iced matcha latte made with brown sugar and toasted almonds; it comes with whole milk by default, but you can easily swap in a plant-based alternative. The Wicked Pink Refresher is dairy-free already, made with Sparkling Strawberry Dragonfruit Refresher and a shot of blueberry. Find out what other vegan options are available at Dunkin’ here.

2D Oat Milk SlicesMilkadamia

The first-ever “2-D oat milk slices” coming to Target

Oat milk sheets? What is this sorcery? Well, it’s actually Milkadamia’s new 2D slices. And while it sounds like magic, it’s really some clever innovation: these dairy-free milk “slices” transform into creamy oat milk the moment you add water. The benefits are big. In fact, the slices require 94 percent less packaging and produce far less waste than traditional cartons, plus the cost is lower, too. Curious to try it? The slices will be available on Milkadamia’s website starting this month, with Amazon availability coming soon. And beginning in 2026, you’ll be able to pick them up at Target.

After a catastrophic fire, The Herbivorous Butcher is officially reopening

Six months ago, The Herbivorous Butcher, a beloved vegan butcher shop in Minneapolis, MN, was devastated by a catastrophic fire that forced it to shut its doors. Now, after major repairs and an outpouring of community support, the shop is officially ready to reopen. “Without a beat, the community that built us back in 2016 showed up for us and has now brought us back to life,” Aubry Walch, who runs the business with her brother, Kale Walch, told VegNews.

“Between all the contributions to our GoFundMe, the kinds words of encouragement, and all the cheers forward, they kept our vegan butcher shop family going strong. We’re excited to recommit to the mission we had at the get go: to save the planet one meal at a time,” Aubry Walch continued.

The Herbivorous Butcher will reopen on November 14, just in time for the holidays. The shop is already taking orders for its Thanksgiving Turkey-Free Feasts, and come January, the butcher shop will celebrate its 10th anniversary.

“As we turn 10 years old this coming January, we plan on bringing some fun new products to our community,” Aubry Walch said. “But more than anything, we’re just so excited to be able to feed people again! We’re here for the long haul and we have a lot of work to do!”

Plant-based rotisserie chicken from BarvecueBarvecue

Plant-based rotisserie chicken is now available in the US

Rotisserie chicken is a staple in many American households. In fact, in 2023, Costco alone sold nearly 140 million of them. Now, picking up a plant-based version is easier than ever thanks to Barvecue, a company known for using traditional North Carolina barbecue methods to craft its vegan meats. Its new Rotisserie Seasoned Chicken is designed to taste and function just like the grocery store classic (perfect for salads, sandwiches, wraps, or whatever you’re craving), but it’s made with simple ingredients like soybeans and sweet potatoes. Intrigued? You can now find the vegan rotisserie chicken in Harris Teeter stores across the Southeast.
