The all-vegan, United Kingdom-based soccer league Forest Green Rovers has won The Sports and Leisure Catering Magazine’s “Menu of the Year” award. Last year, the club removed all animal products from the menu at its New Lawn stadium, making it the world’s first all-vegan soccer sports arena. Chairman Dale Vince veganized the stadium after the World Health Organization released a report linking processed meat to cancer risk. “When we heard that the club had gone all-vegan at the end of last year, we thought it was a real innovative move,” Editor of The Sports and Leisure Catering Magazine says. “It both addresses the issues that are arising in association with modern foodservice, while also taking a stance and demonstrating to the leisure industries how it can be combatted.” At the stadium, league fans dine on selections such as veggie burgers, Mexican fajitas, sweet potato burgers, pizza, and meat alternatives. “The best part of winning this national award is […] that we did it with vegan food,” Vince says. “Food that is sustainable in all senses of the word.”
