Bethlehem, PA-based plant-based bakery Vegan Treats reported a spike in sales after the company’s cakes appeared on a recent episode of The View. Earlier this week, Vegan Treats owner Danielle Konya delivered vegan cake and other baked goods to the hosts of The View at the request of comedian Jon Stewart and his vegan wife Tracey to settle a dispute. An earlier episode of The View featured guest star (and new vegan) Craig Robinson—known for his role as Darryl Philbin on The Office—who expressed that he was looking for a vegan cake for his upcoming birthday. In response, co-host Sunny Hostin doubted that vegan cake could be delicious. “I literally was still driving home from New York City and my manager called and was like,” Konya told local media outlet 69 News WFMZ. “’Uhhh … the bakery phone won’t stop ringing. The website’s been shut down with too much traffic.’ It was crazy.” Konya praised the Stewarts—who are longtime customers of Vegan Treats—for bringing attention to the bakery, stating that by doing so, the celebrity couple brought more awareness to animal rights. “We’re a mission-driven company, we’re animal advocates,” Konya said. “For environmental reasons and animal-rights reasons, it’s so important for people to eat vegan.”
