Vegan Daters Get 62 Percent More Messages Online

Cruelty-free, vegetable-centric profiles on dating platform Zoosk are gaining popularity among internet singles.

Online dating service Zoosk released a report this week that revealed profiles that mentioned the word “vegan” received 62 percent more incoming messages than others on the dating platform. “Back in 2015,” the report stated, “messages that mentioned being a vegetarian were a big no-no and resulted in 100 percent fewer replies than the average. But now that’s it’s 2017, saying you’re a vegetarian is a plus.” Daters who mention fruit and vegetables in their profiles are 34 percent and 19 percent more likely to attract inbox messages, respectively. When messaging others, mentioning the word “eggplant” in a message results in a 10 percent increased chance of a response, while mentioning “fried chicken” garners a seven percent decrease in responses. The data shows that 23 percent of daters abstain from Buffalo wings or ribs on the first date, while shellfish, dairy, and eggs all took top spots as foods that daters prefer to avoid when meeting someone for the first time. A separate study conducted by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals earlier this year found that users of dating application Tinder were 50 percent more likely to respond to profile that mentioned the word “vegan” as opposed one that mentioned the word “bacon.”
