Canada’s first vegan restaurant tour launched last week in London, Ontario. The Taste of Vegan tour encourages local chefs to create special dishes to showcase the variety and complexity of vegan foods in an effort to attract curious diners. “We aspire to draw vegans and non-vegans alike,” event organizers said, “and establish a new food event which will support the tenets of veganism and celebrate the power of this rapidly expanding community. Participating restaurant Plant Matter Kitchen offers a three-course meal that begins with a brie cheese fondue appetizer featuring local vegan cheese brand Nuts for Cheese, a second course of linguini with mushrooms and a smoked artichoke cream, and a third course of tiramisu for dessert. Globally Local—the world’s first 24-hour vegan drive-thru—offers two specialty dishes: ChickUN Chimichangas (a fried burrito stuffed with vegan chicken, caramelized onions, and chipotle sauce) and Nacho Supremacy (corn tortillas slathered in jalapeño vegan cheese). The inaugural Taste of Vegan tour will continue until November 20.
