International delivery service Just Eat announced last week that orders for vegan and vegetarian food increased by 987 percent in 2017. The company—which has delivery hubs in 15 countries, including Ireland, Mexico, and France—reported that 33 percent of its partner restaurants now offer vegan options, with some launching dedicated vegan menus, to keep up with increased demand. Just Eat revealed that Chinese, Indian, American, and Thai restaurants were favorites among Irish customers. “The results from this year are a good insight into the future consumer trends,” Just Eat Marketing Director Edel Kanine told media outlet Irish Mirror, “and while convenience will continue to be key for consumers next year and beyond, we know that they are increasingly looking for more diverse, healthy, gluten-free, and plant-based, vegan options.” Just Eat’s statistics match those of United States-based delivery service GrubHub, which named vegan food as the hottest delivery trend in the first half of 2017.
