London-based pizzeria PickyWops removed all animal products from its menu earlier this month. The popular shop is co-owned by Cristiano Vitelli and Andrea Moro—who have both recently adopted a vegan lifestyle after learning about the cruelty behind the meat and dairy industries. The shop now features 15 vegan pizzas including a Vegan Parmigiana, Vegan Hot Dickens, and a seitan-based Sietham and Mushrooms. The owners expressed that they could no longer engage in something they both believe is wrong. “We just can’t stand by and watch, we want to be part of the change,” Vitelli and Moro said. “We are very happy now we are no longer selling meat and dairy.” Vitelli and Moro said their decision to go vegan is an intentional break with tradition, and stated, “it’s not true that something is right only because we have been always doing it!” Several popular establishments in the UK have recently ditched animal products to better serve their customers and to stay aligned with their own cruelty-free beliefs, including Manchester-based ice cream shop Ice Shack that went completely vegan earlier this month.
