Los Angeles-based Sage Vegan Bistro opened an adjacent brewery and bar last week in its Echo Park neighborhood location. The expansion features a brewery with six fermenters that house Sage’s specialty craft beer that, once fully brewed, will be served in the taproom. Currently, the brewery’s 36 taps are pouring several beers (including a habanero pilsner), along with kombucha, wine, and mixed drinks—with prepared cocktails also available. The restaurant portion serves morning pastries; lunch options such as cauliflower wings, jackfruit nachos, and fish tacos; and it boasts a separate pizza and pretzel menu, family-style dinner options, and weekend brunch that features an array of pancakes, Mexican fare, and American classics such as biscuits and gravy. Restaurateur Mollie Engelhart—who also owns local vegan ice cream shop KindKreme—opened the flagship Echo Park location in 2011 and expanded to two other restaurant locations (Culver City and Pasadena) as well as a food truck shortly thereafter.
