London-based vegan eatery The Vurger Co. will expand across London thanks to a recent investment by Saudi Arabia’s vegan Prince Khaled Alwaleed bin Talal. “Excited to let you know first,” Prince Khaled told VegNews, “[that I] just finalized an investment in The Vurger Co. in London. Plans are to expand in London and bring them to the Middle East after.” The company was founded in 2016 by entrepreneurs Rachel Hugh and Neil Potts after the duo was inspired by California’s plant-based cuisine. In 2017, The Vurger Co.—which currently operates an eatery in Shoreditch—raised £300,000 ($389,000) in less than 77 hours after launching its crowdfunding campaign on CrowdCube. Earlier this week, Prince Khaled announced a partnership with San Diego-based vegan chain Plant Power Fast Food that will result in at least one location of the eatery in the Middle East. Prince Khaled’s investments in The Vurger Co. and Plant Power Fast Food are part of his goal to open 10 vegan restaurants in the Middle East by 2020.
