This week, California-based brand Beyond Meat debuted its plant-based Beyond Burger in the meat department of 350 Tesco supermarket locations across the United Kingdom. Initially, the plant-based patties (sold in a pack of two for £5.50/$7.00 each) were scheduled to debut in the UK in August, but the company was inundated with overwhelming demand in other markets, including Canada where the Beyond Burger is permanently available again (after selling out for several months) at all 925 A&W locations. “The Beyond Burger has been one of the most eagerly anticipated food launches of the year,” Tesco Prepared Foods Selling Manager Martyn Doble said. “And we believe that this fantastic tasting patty will be a real game-changer for anyone considering going vegan or trying a flexitarian diet.” Beyond Burger debuted in 2016 at one Colorado Whole Foods Market and is now available at more than 25,000 global retailers and restaurants—with aggressive expansion plans underway.
