New vegan delicatessen Counterpart Deli recently opened in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. The deli is the first plant-based concept from Blurred Limes Hospitality Company—the restaurant group behind popular LA restaurants such as Tacos Tu Madre, Bardonna, Neck Of The Woods, and WKNDR. “We wanted to provide the neighborhood with a unique alternative to the classic deli and make a difference in the community by roasting our own espresso, making our own plant-based meats in-house, and sourcing goods like pastries, bread, and retail offerings locally—ultimately reducing our carbon footprint,” Counterpart owner Joshua Pourgol said. The deli features seitan-based pastrami, roast beef, and other vegan meats in a variety of sandwiches—as well as offering it for sale by the pound, akin to traditional delicatessens. Counterpart bolsters its menu with jackfruit-based chicken salad, stuffed sandwiches, avocado toast topped with herbs and edible flowers, chimichurri pasta salad, cauliflower mac and cheese, and an all-day breakfast menu featuring French toast topped with coconut whipped cream.
