Vegan bean burritos were the most popular takeout food item in 2018, increasing by 276 percent in popularity compared to 2017, according to meal delivery marketplace GrubHub. To compile its “Year in Food” report, GrubHub analyzed orders placed by more than 16 million diners and surveyed consumers across the country about their ordering habits. The report revealed that cauliflower rice bowls and buffalo cauliflower also made Grubhub’s Top 10 list of most-ordered foods, rising in popularity by 155 percent and 124 percent respectively. Vegan brownies were included in the Top Desserts category, increasing in popularity by 211 percent. Avocado toast and red meat were absent from GrubHub’s list. Similarly, delivery service Uber Eats’ year-end report revealed that plant-based foods gained traction with its consumers in 2018.
