California-based vegan brand Beyond Meat will debut its newest meat alternative this fall. The vegan Beyond Breakfast Sausage will be made with a blend of mung bean, pea, rice, and sunflower seed proteins, and flavored with traditional spices such as black pepper and sage to mimic its animal-based counterpart. Beyond Meat teased the product—which is free of soy, gluten, and GMOs—this weekend at the National Restaurant Association trade show in Chicago. “Beyond Breakfast Sausage is the latest innovation from plant-based leader, Beyond Meat,” the brand stated, “and is a completely new product built from the ground up to deliver against the taste and texture of traditional pork breakfast sausage.” Earlier this month, Beyond Meat announced that it would expand the distribution of its vegan products—including the wildly popular Beyond Burger—to more than 50 countries this summer.
