Starting in October, Walmart stores nationwide will stock a new line of vegan pot pies made by plant-based food company Alpha Foods. The frozen line includes four handheld pie flavors—Beefy Cheddar, Chik’n Veggie, Pizza, and Buffalo Chik’n—that feature a flaky crust stuffed with plant-based meats, cheeses, and sauces. “Our new delicious line of plant-based pot pies provide consumers a fast, on-the-go option outside of the meat and cheese options typically found in the freezer aisle,” Alpha Foods CEO Loren Wallis told VegNews. “Our ultimate goal is to appeal to vegans and non-vegans alike and to offer new frozen food alternatives that help support the planet and the creatures on it—both two legged and four.” Select Wegmans locations will begin stocking the line in June, with Kroger stores to follow in July. The California-based company’s frozen vegan burritos—one of the recipients of this year’s VegNews Best of Show Awards at trade show Natural Products Expo West in March—are also widely available in flavors such as Philly Sandwich, Pizza, and Chik’n Fajita at retailers including Walmart, nationwide.
