Supermarket chain Safeway recently added seven vegan flavors of ice cream to its Open Nature brand. Four Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert flavors are made with an almond-milk base (Peanut Butter & Cookies, Chocolate Fudge Brownies, Coffee Caramel Fudge, and Banana Walnut Fudge), while three feature a cashew-milk base (Vanilla Bean, Cookie Dough, and Salted Caramel Cluster). The supermarket added the line following recent launches of vegan ice cream by brands such as Häagen-Dazs, Halo Top, Breyers, and Ben & Jerry’s—which now offers nine vegan pints in similar, almond-milk based flavors such as PB & Cookies, Coffee Caramel Fudge, Chunky Monkey, and Chocolate Fudge Brownie.
