Coffeehouse chain Starbucks added this week the vegan Iced Vanilla Bean Coconutmilk Latte to its permanent menu. The new item is made by shaking dairy-free vanilla powder and coconut milk, before adding a shot of espresso on top, a departure from other iced latte beverages that use sauces (which are often not vegan) as sweeteners. “Some call it an upside down latte,” Starbucks states on its website. “We call it the perfect pick-me-up.” After introducing almond milk to its menu in 2016, Starbucks has released several limited edition beverages featuring plant-based milks, including the vegan-friendly Hazelnut Mocha Coconutmilk Macchiato it launched during last winter.
