International sandwich chain Subway recently added an all-vegan sandwich to the menu at 100 locations in Australia and New Zealand. The new plant-based sandwich—the first of its kind for Subway in the region—features “smashed falafel” topped with a variety of vegetables. “We know Australian palates and preferences have changed over time,” Subway Director of Marketing, Kate Brody, told media outlet Courier Mail, “and we’re excited to hear directly from our guests so we can end up with a great balance between the classic Subway favorites, and on-trend, innovative flavors. “In February, the chain debuted the Vegan Delite—which features a soy-based patty Subway described as “spicy vegan steak”—at its locations in Finland. In 2015, Subway launched two vegan sandwiches—Black Bean and Malibu Garden—in 1,000 locations across the United States.
