The vegan Strong Heart Attack Burger made its debut this week at the New York State Fair. New York-based vegan eatery Strong Hearts Cafe created the burger, which features two vegan glazed doughnuts made by local bakery The Sweet Praxis, a grilled Beyond Burger patty, tomatoes, lettuce, and a homemade sweet agave mustard dressing. The creation is a plant-based entrant into the trend of high-fat, caloric fried foods—which frequently feature animal products such as bacon—which poke fun at the idea of heart disease, an ailment multiple studies link to the consumption of animal products. “We know this is totally stupid but we have to do it,” the café captioned a photo of its creation on Facebook. Throughout the fair, the eatery will also serve apple pie milkshakes, a variety of sandwiches, and hot dogs featuring the Beyond Sausage.
