Animal-rights activist Edward Winters (also known as Earthling Ed) is opening a non-profit vegan diner, Unity Diner, in London. Winters is known for his YouTube channel and educational content encouraging discussion about veganism. All profits from the diner will go to grassroots animal-rights organization Surge, which Winters co-founded. “Over a year ago, I was approached by an extremely kind individual who wanted to help us turn our animal-rights organization Surge into something more,” Winters posted to Facebook, “but they wanted us to be able to fund ourselves and be self-sustainable—so we collectively conceptualized Unity Diner.” While the opening date has yet to be announced, Winters plans to serve classic diner food such as vegan Chicken Pancake Stack, Tofish Bites, Walnut Chocolate Brownies, and cherry pie. Within one year of opening, its income will allow Surge to fund large-scale advertising campaigns across the United Kingdom and the development of The Surge Sanctuary, which is scheduled to open in late 2019. “I hope that Unity Diner can give the community something back,” Winters said, “that our campaigns will change and save lives, and that next year, The Surge Sanctuary will be able to provide a safe haven for rescued animals in the UK.”
