California-based chain Luna Grill reports this week that the Beyond Burger has outperformed its “grass-fed” beef burger in sales by 40 percent. The chain added the Beyond Burger to the menu in April, where it serves the vegan patty on a non-vegan brioche bun topped with feta cheese. The chain—which has 47 locations throughout Southern California and Texas—added the plant-based patty to its menu in response for more meat-free options from customers, which, it revealed, includes meat-eaters. The trend experienced by Luna Grill is not unique to the chain, as the Beyond Burger has been consistently sold out at A&W locations in Canada after its debut in July. Beyond Meat is currently expanding the distribution of its popular Beyond Burger to more than 50 countries nationwide, and landed on the menu this week of burger chain WellDone in Italy.
