Vegan eatery VeganBurg—located in the historic Haight Ashbury district of San Francisco—debuted a “Summer of Love” burger this week. The Rasa Sayang Burg (which translates to “Feel the Love” in Malay) was inspired by Southeast Asian breakfast classic Nasi Lemak and features a breaded porcini mushroom- based patty, vegan fried egg, cucumber slices, caramelized onions, vegan aioli, lettuce, and sambal—a popular hot sauce in Southeast Asia. “We’re bringing back the color, opulence, consciousness, and the love of the Haight with a taste of classic heart-warming Southeast Asian flavors,” VeganBurg founder Alex Tan said. “For many, we’re certain that the Rasa Sayang Burg will bring to their delight a familiar taste of Southeast Asia.” In 2015, VeganBurg moved its headquarters from Singapore to San Francisco where it serves a variety of vegan burgers, sides, and soft-serve in the Haight Ashbury district on the same block as Ben & Jerry’s—where vegan ice cream is available for purchase in scoops and pints.
