International chain Pizza Hut added the Jack ‘n’ Ch**se vegan pizza to the menu of all of its 253 United Kingdom locations for the month of January. The new option was introduced in celebration of Veganuary, a month-long vegan challenge that has gained traction worldwide since its launch in 2014. The new pizza features vegan cheese by Greek brand Violife, barbecue jackfruit, corn, red onions, peppers, and a drizzle of barbecue sauce, with a choice of Pan, All American Thin, and Gluten Free crusts. Pizza Hut UK trialed Violife cheese in 2017 at eight locations before adding it to the menu nationwide after positive customer response. “Following the overwhelmingly positive feedback and awards we’ve won for our initial vegan range in 2017, we’ve responded to demand with a third vegan pizza,” Kathryn Austin, Pizza Hut Director of HR and Marketing, said. “We’re confident the Jack ‘n’ Ch**se Pizza will be just as warmly received.” The chain is tracking sales of the Jack ‘n’ Ch**se pizza on a “Vegan-O-Meter” posted to its Twitter account and will add the item to its permanent menu should it sell 10,000 vegan pizzas during Veganuary. “We love innovating and giving our guests as much choice as possible and if this is as successful as we expect it to be, we’ll keep it on the menu for the foreseeable future,” Austin said. While Pizza Hut has been slow to adapt its menu to shifting consumer trends in the United States, it tested vegan cheese options at two Australian locations last year.
