Starting today, fast-food chain Subway will begin testing a meatless meatball marinara sub sandwich for a limited time at select United Kingdom locations in Birmingham and Manchester. The move comes after Subway launched a trial of a similar vegan-friendly sub sandwich in 685 locations across the United States and Canada in September. The North American sub features Beyond Meat vegan meatballs specifically developed for Subway—the world’s largest fast-food chain—and can be ordered vegan by omitting the dairy-based cheese and on Italian or 9-Grain Wheat bread. Subway UK has not revealed if its sub is completely vegan or made with Beyond Meat. If the trial is a success, the new menu item will roll out to additional UK locations in January.
