A new location of vegan restaurant chain Gracias Madre recently opened in Newport Beach, CA. Taking over the former location of sister restaurant Gratitude Kitchen and Bar, the 215-seat restaurant got an extensive remodel for its 4,300 square-foot space to include a private dining area, candle-lit fireplace, a re-landscaped patio, and Mexico-inspired ambiance. The new menu features Mexican favorites from its West Hollywood location, including the Bowl Uno, Jamaica Flautas, and Jackfruit Carnitas Tacos, plus exclusive dishes such as Al Pastor Pineapple Tacos, Watermelon Carpaccio, and churros with dipping chocolate. The restaurant also offers an extensive cocktail menu featuring artisanal tequila and mezcal craft cocktails. “I’m drawn to the idea of adapting the authentic flavors and techniques of traditional Mexican cuisine to create new and innovative dishes that are still largely influenced by the customs, practices, and heritage of my culture. Without tradition there is no evolution,” Chef Alan Sánchez Lázaro said. “I want to dispel the notion that Mexican cuisine is just spices and tortillas—there is a whole story to each dish.”
