Ibiza has been renowned as one of Europe’s top party destinations for decades. The Spanish Balearic island’s carefree reputation began to take shape during the tourist boom of the 1970s, following the death of Spanish dictator Francisco Franco.
As waves of visitors—particularly hippies—flocked to the island in the latter half of the decade, Ibiza gradually transformed into a nightlife hotspot, celebrated for its thriving club scene. That legacy remains strong today. In 2023, the island welcomed approximately 3.7 million tourists, many drawn by sun, sea, sand, and, of course, the parties.
However, a new side of Ibiza has been emerging in recent years—one that shifts the focus away from alcohol and clubbing and toward wellness, yoga, and healthy living.

Ibiza’s growing wellness movement
If you’re looking for a yoga retreat, Ibiza has plenty to offer. According to Book Yoga Retreats, a travel site dedicated to wellness getaways, the island boasts more than 70 yoga retreat options, ranging from SUP Yoga on paddleboards to mindfulness, meditation, Yin, and Vinyasa. Beyond yoga, Ibiza is also home to numerous wellness centers. Take 7Pines, for example—a popular resort on the island’s west coast featuring a 1,500-square-meter holistic wellness space complete with saunas, steam rooms, water bed relaxation areas, and an array of treatment rooms.
Trish Whelan, a therapist and yoga instructor based on the island, believes Ibiza’s shift from a pure party scene to a more wellness-focused destination reflects the growing global need for rest and recovery. “The need for people to retreat is so strong now. I see a lot of burnout. We are constantly ‘on’—modern living itself is exhausting,” she told Suitcase Magazine.
“The world has changed dramatically over the past few years, and Ibiza has changed in response. People come here to heal, recharge, and reconnect with nature.”
Dynamic Lives, a luxury travel agent specializing in Ibizan villas, has also noticed a more wellness-focused vibe emerging in Ibiza. “The quiet countryside, hidden coves, hilltop escapes, and serene beaches create the perfect backdrop for a wellness retreat,” its website reads. “Whether you seek solitude or community, the island caters to every kind of traveler looking for a mindful escape.”
