This fall, vegan company Base Coat Nail Salon will open inside of department store Nordstrom in New York City. In 2013, Base Coat opened as Denver, CO’s first non-toxic nail salon and now operates a total of 11 locations, including stand-alone shops in Los Angeles and Denver and shop-in-shop outposts at select Nordstrom retailers nationwide. The company is committed to offering its customers non-toxic products “from base coat to top coat and everything in between,” and each shop features vegan furniture and amenities. All of Base Coat’s products, including its glitter and custom formulated creams, oils, and scrubs, are Leaping Bunny cruelty-free certified, vegan, and free from the most harmful toxins such as petrochemicals, parabens, and sulfates. “If we are going to take care of ourselves, we also need to take care of our planet and the animals within it,” Base Coat co-founder Tran Wills told VegNews. “Many of our customers come to us solely because they know our products are vegan.” Ahead of its New York City debut, Base Coat opened its most recent location this month in Denver’s trendy RiNo Arts District.
