Taco Bell will launch a limited-time menu that features tacos made with oat-based meat but customers will have to go to only three London locations (Fulham, Hammersmith, and Holborn) to try them. Available during National Vegetarian Week (May 13 through May 19), The Edgy Veggie Taco comes in two flavors (Classic and BBQ) and features Finnish brand Gold & Green Foods’ “Pulled Oats”—a vegan pork replacement made from oats, pea protein, and fava bean protein. “At Taco Bell, we pride ourselves on being a place where every lifestyle can find exactly what they’re craving,” Jorge Torres, General Manager of Taco Bell Europe, said. “So, whether you’re a vegetarian or a flexitarian, then you’ll love our new flavorsome meat-free offering.” Customers can order The Edgy Veggie Tacos vegan by omitting cheese and sour cream. Stateside, Taco Bell is making it easier to order meatless items with a dedicated vegetarian menu (which it is currently testing in Dallas locations). During a press event in April, Taco Bell Chief Food Innovation Officer Elizabeth Matthews revealed to VegNews that the chain is potentially adding vegan meat and cheese options to a “Vegetarian 2.0” menu and stated, “You’re going to be surprised with what we launch after this.”
