Today, fast-food chain Carl’s Jr. announced it would expand the Beyond Famous Star to select locations in Canada—its first expansion of the meatless option outside of the United States. In January, Carl’s Jr. launched the burger—which features a vegan Beyond Burger patty, topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, sliced onion, dill pickle, special sauce, and mayonnaise and can be ordered vegan without cheese or mayonnaise—at its more than 1,000 locations across the US. “After the wild success of the Beyond Famous Star in our US Carl’s Jr. locations and hearing consumer feedback and demand for a plant-based option at our Canada locations, we knew it was the perfect time to add the Beyond Famous Star to our menu internationally,” Mike Woida, President of International at Carl’s Jr.’s parent company CKE Restaurants, said. “As market leaders in the plant-based category, we are thrilled to partner with Beyond Meat to deliver one of the most craveable burger options that is cooked and flavored by fire.” In October, CKE Restaurants subsidiary Hardee’s will begin testing options made with Beyond Meat products, including a Beyond Thickburger and Beyond Sausage served on a biscuit. To promote its launch in Canada, Carl’s Jr. will offer a buy-one-get-one free deal of the Beyond Famous Star at participating Canadian locations from September 9 until September 15.
