California-based vegan cheese company Miyoko’s Creamery recently expanded distribution of its European Style Cultured Vegan Butter to 1,000 grocery stores in Canada. The palm oil-free plant-based butter—which is made with cultured cashew milk and organic coconut oil in the traditional European style—is available in major Canadian stores such as Loblows, Sobey’s, and Save-on, as well as a number of independent retailers. Some stores also carry Miyoko’s cashew-based cheese wheels. Chef and author Miyoko Schinner founded the company in 2014 with the intent of creating plant-based versions of artisan cheeses. In addition to cheese wheels in 10 flavors, Miyoko’s has launched products such as cashew-based “pub” cheeses in three flavors (Biergarten Garlic Chive, The Cheers to Cheddah, and Spicy Revolution), and three additional flavors of Philadelphia-style cream cheese (Plainly Classic, Un-Lox Your Dreams, and Sensational Scallion). Earlier this year, Miyoko’s announced that it is working on a new line of nut-free cheeses made from a combination of potatoes, beans, and seeds. Miyoko’s hopes to increase distribution of its products in Canada over the course of this year.
