This month, vegan brand Gardein will launch the Ultimate Plant-Based Burger in the freezer sections of grocery stores and retailers nationwide. The 4-ounce burger is made with pea protein and will be available for a suggested retail price (SRP) of $4.99 for a two pack and SRP $12.99 for a six pack. The burger is part of Gardein’s new Ultimate line, which will also include Ultimate Hot Dog and Ultimate Sausage—the launch of which has yet to be announced. With the development of these new products, Gardein—which was acquired by food conglomerate ConAgra Brands in 2018—aims to compete with brands such as Beyond Meat, Lightlife, and Nestlé, which have all launched innovative plant-based burgers and sausages. “If you’re going to be a leader in meatless meals, serving a great-tasting burger is a must,” Tara Rozalowsky, Vice President and General Manager at Gardein, said. “We’re incredibly proud of the delicious, meaty taste of our new Gardein Ultimate Plant-Based Burger, and we can’t wait for consumers to fire up the grill and enjoy their first bite.” This month, Trader Joe’s also got into the plant-based burger industry with the launch of its own “Protein Patties” at stores nationwide.
