Foxes are cute, playful, and intelligent, sure, but they’re also incredibly mischievous. In fact, sometimes they even get vegans into trouble. Intrigued? So were we. Check out our story about why a Scottish fox recently made American news and fueled headlines about “militant vegans.” Spoiler alert: it has a lot to do with culture-war clickbait.
But before you dive into what sneaky foxes have to do with wokeness, it’s time for this week’s food news. We’ve got exciting updates on everything from plant-based Camembert cheese to boozy pumpkin spice boba and plenty more.
UmYum’s artisanal vegan cheese is launching at Sprouts. | VegNews
This Canadian brand is launching across the US to save the fancy vegan cheese market
Last year, we reported that UmYum, Canada’s popular, award-winning, artisanal dairy-free cheese brand, was heading to stores in Northern California. Now, we’re thrilled to update you with even bigger news: UmYum’s revolutionary, creamy vegan cheeses have landed at more than 480 Sprouts stores across the US.
Next time you’re in the cheese aisle, look out for Monroe, the brand’s white-rinded vegan answer to camembert, as well as artisanal cheeses in varieties like Basil & Garlic and Za’atar & Spices.
“We’re thrilled about the partnership with Sprouts,” said UmYum’s CEO Katherine Corden. “Food is big. It’s cultural, it’s personal, it’s communal. It’s one of life’s true pleasures. We believe that food experiences should be celebrated, shared, and enjoyed. That’s what UmYum and Sprouts are doing together—we’re making it easier for more people to choose beautifully delicious food experiences.”
Juicy Marbles’ latest hyper-realistic offering is butcher-style sausages. | Juicy Marbles
Juicy Marbles—makers of vegan baby back ribs and ultra-realistic plant-based fish—launches line of butcher-style sausages
Two weeks ago, Juicy Marbles wowed British consumers with its new Butcher-Minced Bangers, which, as the name suggests, have been developed to look and taste like sausages straight from the butcher’s shop. When we say “wowed”, we mean it: the sausages promptly sold out from UK online retailer Ocado within hours of launching.
Now, it’s America’s turn to see what all the fuss is about. The popular vegan brand, which has previously launched hyperrealistic vegan versions of baby back ribs and fish, recently made its Butcher-Minced Bangers available on its US site.
“Plant-based sausages have tasted good for a long time,” said co-founder Luka Sinček. “They opened people’s minds to the potential of plant-based meat. However, our credo demands that if we can give something a sensory overhaul, we must. So, when we realized we could employ the same techniques butchers use to make high-quality sausage—by mincing and casing our own plant-based whole cuts and fats—the superior eating experience kinda shocked us, and we had to move forward.”
But if you’re intrigued, bad news: the sausages are already sold out. Make sure to keep an eye on the US website for updates on future restocks.

Philadelphia is home to two new Black-owned vegan restaurants
It’s a good time to be a Philadelphian. The Pennsylvania city is home to not one, but two new Black-owned vegan restaurants.
Delaware’s Cheezy Vegan opened the new Cheezy Vegan Cafe & Comfort Food Lab on South 17th Street in July. Think pure (and very cheesy) comfort food: Quesadillas, cheesesteaks, mac and cheese, loaded nacho potatoes, and plenty more.
In The Square Food Hall, Chinatown (the first Black-owned food hall in the city), there’s also a new location of New Jersey favorite Vegans Are Us. Again, the menu is centered around veganized comfort classics, like breakfast sandwiches, hot dogs, fish subs, and stacked burgers.
Malk’s new Whole Malk is packed with 12 grams of protein per serving. | Malk
The whole milk versus vegan milk debate is dead thanks to Malk’s protein-packed new launch
Forget cow’s milk. Malk’s new plant-based milk, Whole Malk, is thick, creamy, and packed with 12 grams of plant protein per serving. For context, that’s more than whole cow’s milk, which offers around eight grams per serving. Even better, Whole Malk is made with just a handful of ingredients, including organic coconuts, cashews, soy, and pea protein. Grab a bottle now from Whole Foods Market, Target, or Sprouts across the US.

Sun Flour Baking Company has rebranded as Hooray! Cookies, but don’t worry, it’s still plant-based. | Hooray! Cookies
A new vegan cookie brand (with history) is hitting the market
Hooray! Cookies is a new vegan, clean-label, gluten-free cookie brand, offering one- and three-ounce bags of fun and classic flavors like S’mores, Snickerdoodle, Mint Chip, and Oatmeal Raisin. Okay, we say new, but Hooray! has actually been around for quite some time. In fact, it was founded in 1997, but until recently, it was known as the Sun Flour Baking Company. Die-hard vegans from the 90s may also recognize owner Rey Ortega—the same plant-based cookie pioneer who founded ABC Cookies.
According to the brand, the new name and image “matches the joy of every bite.”
